Lehmarsch (Pty) Ltd, trading as Schafer Engineering

A Paarl workshop with a new name

Since 2006 this business has made precision parts for the factories and workshops of the Western Cape. Today it operates as Lehmarsch (Pty) Ltd, trading as Schafer Engineering.

From Schäfer Engineering cc to Lehmarsch

The business was founded in 2006 as Schäfer Engineering cc, a machining workshop in Triangle Park, Paarl. Over the years it built its reputation on turned, milled and routed parts for local industry, and on being the kind of supplier that delivers.

The company now operates as Lehmarsch (Pty) Ltd. Because so many customers know us by the original name, we continue to trade as Schafer Engineering, and you may also see it written as Schaefer or Schäfer. They are all the same business.

For customers, very little changes. The workshop is in the same place, the telephone number is the same, and our email address still ends in schaeferengineering.co.za. Invoices, quotes and the sign outside now carry the Lehmarsch name.

What we believe good machining looks like

A good part is more than a set of correct measurements. It fits first time, it is made from a material that suits where it is going, it has a finish that will not cause trouble later, and it arrives when it was promised.

  • Understand the part. We ask what a component does before we decide how to make it.
  • Choose the right route. CNC or manual, routing or milling, decided by what is best for the job.
  • Check before it leaves. Critical dimensions, threads and fits are measured against the drawing.
  • Be straight about time. A realistic lead time is more useful than an optimistic one.

One roof, several processes

Our workshop combines CNC routing, CNC turning and milling, conventional lathes and mills, and stainless fabrication. That range is deliberate. A typical part might be turned, then milled, then fitted to a routed plastic component, and keeping every step in house keeps the whole job accurate and on time.

We work in stainless and mild steel, aluminium, brass and a wide range of engineering plastics, for customers across Paarl, the Boland and the wider Western Cape.

Materials we machine

Choosing the right material matters as much as cutting it accurately. We will recommend one if you are not sure.

Stainless steel
Food contact parts, nozzles, shafts, hubs and anything that sees water, product or washdown chemicals.
Mild and alloy steel
Structural parts, brackets, cams, gears and general engineering components.
Aluminium
Light, stiff plates, fixtures and housings that machine quickly and resist corrosion.
Brass and bronze
Bushes, fittings and wear parts where low friction and easy machining help.
UHMW polyethylene
Star wheels, guides and wear strips that need low friction and high wear resistance.
Acetal and nylon
Gears, rollers, trays and precise plastic parts that must hold their shape.
Phenolic laminates
Tough fabric reinforced parts such as star wheels that take repeated impact.

In our customers' words

Have a drawing, a sample or a broken part?

Send it through and we will look at the best way to make it, what it will cost and how long it will take. A clear drawing helps, but a photo with a few measurements is often enough to start.
